TAMARA STRICKLEY

Sook Ja Chun arrived in the United States in December of 1960 at the age of two. Her back story is a familiar one as to how she came to be adopted. Tamara, as she become to be known as, spent her formative years in Southern California and grew up with six brothers.

First contact with other Korean adoptees was in the 80's through a Yahoo group. In 2011, a friend's Facebook post led her to a variety of Korean adoptee groups. Since then Tamara has watched this community grow and participates in a number of adoptee-centered events and activities. She decided to take a DNA test after listening to reunion stories with great interest and admiration. Her results were very distant relations but Tamara remains hopeful that someday a more immediate relative will surface.

Tamara joined 325KAMRA when they put out a call for volunteers and is honored to be part of an organization that seeks to unite families. Having retired in 2018, she continues to utilize her skills and experience, gained with a global consulting company, by working with several non-profits in her community. While that work engages her analytical side, Tamara also exercises her creativity through a variety of mixed-media art and craft projects. Tamara has two mix-race daughters and three grandsons. Her husband is a staunch supporter of whatever she is involved in.
